Honor Mother Earth - on Earth Day April 22 - and every day by participating in some of these activities!

  1. Recycle Gather your recyclables together and drop them off at the nearest recycle location.

  2. Stop Using Bottled Water This is a great way to save money for yourself and help the environment. It takes a great amount of fossil fuels to make the bottles and then they end up clogging landfills. You can easily solve this problem by purchasing refillable water bottles.

  3. Organize a community cleanup up This is a great way to get rid of unnecessary litter in the neighborhood, park or playground

  4. Buy local produce When possible, always buy local because when you do this, you will be limiting the amount of carbon emissions needed to transport produce from one place to another.

  5. Cut down on junk mail Save the destruction of trees while eliminating all the annoying mail that most people receive daily. See the following link for organizations that help you remove your name from consumer mailing lists:  http://www.earthday.org/take-action/about-junk-mail/.

  6. Track your online energy use You can download Chrome’s Earth Mode Plug-In to track your energy usage for media such as Facebook or Twitter, and it calculates the number of trees needed to offset the usage.

  7. Plant a tree What a wonderful and easy way to give back to Mother Nature!

  8. Make a compost When you compost, you are recycling food. Get started by putting leftovers in a selected area of the yard allowing microorganisms to break down the material into nutrient rich soil.

  9. Eat less meat The meat industry is responsible for creating 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. Not eating meat one day a week will limit the amount of these harmful gases.

  10. Join an environmental group This is a great way to commit to helping create a better and safer environment. There are several organizations for you to join that advocate for a healthy environment.
