Dread those long miles of bickering, whining and complaining from the back seat?  “Stop pulling my hair … she did it first!”  Get those back seat cranksters to ditch the digital for some good, old fashioned car games.  Maybe you’ve played some of these!

I Spy:  “I spy with my little eye, something blue” - One person spies something and recites the line ending with a clue (ie color, shape, etc).  Other players take turns trying to guess the item.

License Plate Game:  Watch for and write down the state of different license plates; try to spot all 50!  Want to try a more challenging version?  Try Spot the Car to find different car models!

I’m Going On A Picnic:  This is an alphabet based memory game.  First person starts with “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing …” something starting with letter A, like Apples.  Next player repeats what the first person said, ie apples, and then ads something starting with the letter B, like Butterfingers!  So it would sound like “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing Apples and Butterfingers”.  Keep building on the alphabet and see if you can get all the way through … “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing Apples, Butterfingers, Carrots, Darts … Z”

20 Questions:  First player thinks of a person, place or thing.  Everyone else takes turns asking yes or no questions.  After each answer, the questioner gets to guess.  Keep playing until the person, place or thing is guessed.

And of course there’s always Tic Tac Toe or Hangman … but don’t expect them to share a pencil!
