5 Tips For Settling Into A New Neighborhood

A great way to settle into a new neighborhood is to get to know your neighbors. But what is the best way to introduce yourself? Here are some tips to make it a little easier:

  1. Observe the Neighborhood. Search for houses with children by looking for toys on the lawn. Also, check to see if anyone is doing any gardening or if you notice any elderly people in the neighborhood. If you know a little about your neighbors, it will make it easier to break the ice.

  2. Take a Walk. Try to spend some time after work and on weekends walking around the neighborhood. Hopefully, you will encounter a neighbor along the way and have the opportunity to strike up a conversation.

  3. Make Your Move. Wait for an appropriate time to introduce yourself.  Do not approach anyone who is getting into or out of the car.

  4. What To Say. If you do not seem to have anything in common with a neighbor, just approach the person and tell him/her a little about yourself. If that is uncomfortable, you might ask about recycling or grocery shopping in the area.

  5. Other Ideas include throwing a block party, volunteering, joining a club in the neighborhood.
