Come enjoy a fascinating visit to Avery Island and see the beautiful pepper fields that are used to produce McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce. This land is also a bird sanctuary for many species of birds, including the snow egret, which previously was on the endangered list. In addition, there are ancient oak trees, bamboos and waterways with an abundance of wildlife. Both guided and self-guided tours are available for exploring the different facets of Avery Island. For example, you can visit the museum and see the special artifacts and exhibits in the museum and visitor’s center. You can learn how the tabasco sauce is made with historian Shane K. Bernard, Ph.D. who conducts a 10-stop tour, explaining the Tabasco history and the production process.
