Celebrate At The Central City Festival In New Orleans
Join the fun at the 9th annual Central City Festival to be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016. The activities take place in the 1600 and 1700 blocks of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, once known as Dryades Street, that renamed in 1980 to honor Oretha Castle Haley, who was a civil rights pioneer and the president of the New Orleans chapter of CORE (Congress of Racial Equality). The festival is sponsored by the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants and Business Association, which is engaged in revitalizing the Boulevard.
At the festival, you will experience great music, dance, delicious local food, art, activities for children and much more. In addition, there will be various health organizations on hand to conduct health screenings along with other non-profits assembled to share their information. Activities for young people include the annual youth dance contest and the youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament in which prizes are awarded. The festival has one of the largest second line parades in New Orleans and is free and open to the public.
