Celebrate Bastille Day July 14 At New Orleans Museum Of Art
Festivals, parades and fireworks are a few of the ways in which the French and many francophone communities celebrate Bastille Day. As Louisiana is the largest francophone region in the United States, it is not surprising that New Orleans is the home of many memorable Bastille Day celebrations. In fact, Reuters.com named New Orleans as having the 3rd best Bastille Day celebration in the world. Bastille Day is celebrated to commemorate the beginning of the French Revolution that was ignited when the people of Paris stormed the Bastille on July 14, 1789. The Bastille was a fortress-prison that symbolized the unjust power of the monarchy. This year the New Orleans Museum of Art will hold the celebration on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 6-9 PM. Activities will include music and dancing to the swing band, the Bon Bon Vivants along with a cooking demonstration by Café NOMA. In addition, there will be children’s activities and guided gallery visits conducted in both French and English.
