Cinco de Mayo is a celebration in Mexico that recognizes Mexico’s victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862. Several communities in Mexico celebrate the day with music, dance and parades. Other countries, including Japan, Canada and the U.S. also celebrate Cinco de Mayo with music, dance and festivities. In NOLA, there are several restaurants and bars that offer Mexican specials where you can party and celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Here are 5 celebrations to consider.


  1. Eiffel Society  Come celebrate the 4th Annual Margarita Mayhem Cinco de Mayo  Celebration and Day Party with Geaux Hard Entertainment at Eiffel Society, 2040 St. Charles Avenue. Doors open at 5 PM, and margaritas are free for ladies until  6 PM.   2. Martin Wine Cellar  Gear up for Cinco de Mayo at Martin Wine Cellar’s Tres de Cinco Fiesta held on May 3, 2017 from 6:30 PM till 8 PM. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church  Join in the Cinco de Mayo celebration at Our Lady of Lourde’s Bayou Bash where you will hear live music by Phunky Monkey and also enjoy some delicious Mexican food and margaritas from 6-10 PM. Our Lady of Lourdes Church is located at 400 Westchester Blvd. in Slidell. La Carreta  Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexican style at La Carreta’s 2 Northshore locations, Mandeville and Covington where you can expect excellent traditional Mexican cuisine and drinks. The Mandeville restaurant is located at 1200 W. Causeway Approach and will feature live music by Karma from 7PM - 10PM. The Covington restaurant at 812 Hwy.190 will present Groovy7 from 7PM - 10PM.
