Completing Your Move With A Change Of Address
At one point in my life I worked as a letter carrier for the largest letter delivery company in the world, the U.S. Postal Service. I brought smiles to many faces on a daily basis and I loved it. The only sad faces I saw were on customers waiting on their forwarded mail. While purchasing that new home is a joyous moment, sometimes waiting on those important papers to arrive by mail can be stressful.
Forwarding mail is a necessary evil mainly because you wait 7-10 days to begin seeing your mail again. The best and easiest way to change your address is online at USPS.com. (You can still change your address the old fashioned way by filling out the Change of Address card out at any post office and dropping it in any collection box.)
The Postal Service charges one dollar for the online service and that $1.00 must be charged to a debit or credit card for identity purposes. It takes 7-10 business days before you begin seeing your forwarded mail arrive. Remember, only First class mail and periodicals (magazines) are forwarded. First class mail is forwarded for one year and periodicals for 60 days. The business bulk mail (a/k/a junk mail) is not forwarded. Therefore, a lot of people think they aren't receiving all of their mail when they move because they don't realize business bulk mail is not forwarded. It doesn't take long to start receiving that bulk rate mail at your new address!
So, after moving keep yourself busy getting that new home in order. The mail is on it's way!
