Covington Three Rivers Art Festival
Held Saturday, November 14th through Sunday, November 15th from 10 am-5 pm, the Covington Three Rivers Art Festival is a free annual event you don't want to miss. The art festival is held on Columbia Street in downtown Covington and features art and craft exhibits from nearly 200 artists and craftsmen from over 20 states. The event has been held since 1997 and attracts around 60,000 people every year. The annual event has tripled in size since it started beginning with around 49 exhibiting artists. Many varieties of art are available for purchase such as paintings, woodwork, jewelry, photography, and watercolor paintings. For more information such as a full list of artists, a music lineup, food vendors and parking info visit www.threeriversartfestival.com.
At the festival there will also be a children's discovery area which will include face painting and several areas where kids can create their own works of art. Located in the discovery area is a children's performing stage and a student art exhibit in which students from grades K-12 from local schools (private and public) in St. Tammany Parish can display their artwork. The art is judged in a competition and the best of show winner can win a $50 cash prize. Also don't miss the Arts Alive tent for live demonstrations of various art such as pottery making, painting and glass blowing.
The mission statement of the Art Festival is to expand and enhance the reputation of St. Tammany Parish as an arts-oriented community and mecca for artists and art lovers; to serve as an attraction for cultural tourists to St. Tammany Parish; to support artists in St. Tammany Parish and outside of St. Tammany Parish; and to support art education for students living in St. Tammany Parish or attending a St. Tammany Parish School. The festival is a non-profit organization that is run by a part-time coordinator and volunteers. It is also supported by more than 150 volunteer committee members and workers. Come out and support this great event!
