Is there a such thing as HEALTHY FAT ???
If fat is unhealthy in our diet - should we not eat it? NO - actually we need fat in our diet - but it should be healthy fats. Fat does not make us fat. Excess calories make us gain weight. Fat is a source of energy. There are certain fats that are essential for the following functions in our bodies:
proper function of nerves and brain
maintains healthy skin and tissues
growth development and cell function
transports fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) into the bloodstream
helps form steroid hormones that are needed for bodily processes
When choosing fats they should be from healthy sources. A few examples of healthy fats from foods are salmon, herring, mackerel, avocados, olives, olive oil, and nuts. You should avoid trans fats. Read labels and study the ingredients that are in the foods that you eat. You only have one body - so take care of it.
