Hogs For The Cause
The 9th annual Hogs for the Cause will take place March 30 through April 1, 2017 at UNO’s Lakefront Arena Fairgrounds. The charity raises money for pediatric brain cancer and features both barbeque and a music lineup including Railroad Earth, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Fruit Bats and many more. There will be competing barbeque teams composed of both amateur and professional chefs participating in the “High on the Hog” contest and hoping to win the title “Louisiana Pork Champion”. In addition to the pork, other independent vendors will be on hand offering alternative dishes, including vegetarian. The first Hogs for the Cause came about in 2009 when some people got together and roasted a pig to raise money for a little boy named Ben Sarrat, who had been diagnosed with incurable brain cancer. Approximately 200 people showed up for this event. Since then, this event has developed into one of the largest barbeque competitions/music festivals in the country.
