Join Ride Of Silence NOLA To Honor Cyclists
Come join other bikers in The Ride of Silence, sponsored by NOLA Social Ride, to be held on May 17, 2017 during National Bike Week! NOLA Social Ride is an organization composed of bike riders who meet with other riders and ride together. The Ride of Silence is an international campaign whose purpose is to bring awareness to motorists and city officials of cyclists’ legal right to public roads and also to honor those cyclists who have been injured or killed. Ride of Silence was formed in 2003 when Larry Schwartz, an endurance cyclist was hit and killed by a passing bus. The ride will begin at 7 PM. There will be a brief ceremony prior to the ride in order to remember those who have lost their lives while cycling. Please adhere to the following requirements: remain silent during the ride, wear helmets and do not ride faster than 12 mph. The ride is 10 miles long and you will meet back at the starting location.
