2016 marked 100 years for Le Petit Theater, and the 2016-17 season will close with a hilarious farce It’s Only a Play, written by Thomas McNally, winner of 4 Tony Awards. The play opens with its main character Peter Austin waiting to see if his new play will be a hit while accompanied by the theater group including the producer, director, neurotic leading lady, a questionable critic and the coat check clerk. It’s Only a Play is a spoof on what it takes to ensure that a play is a success, and it humorously demonstrates how vicious the theater crowd can be. The play was a success on Broadway starring Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. The play runs at Le Petit Theater from June 9-25, 2017 (not recommended for children under 13). The Petit Theater first opened in 1916 and during that time has produced many hundreds of excellent productions at 616 St. Peter Street, where it has been located since 1922. The theater remained the same until 2012 when it underwent a tremendous renovation in which part of the building was sold to Dickie Brennan & Company who opened the Tableau Restaurant in its portion of the building. The auditorium and other parts of the theater were also highly renovated. For ticket information, see the following link: http://www.lepetittheatre.com/listings/events/.
