The holiday season is here and it is a great time to reflect on the things we are thankful for. For me personally I am thankful for many things such as my husband & family, my home, my job & my health. Honestly, my list could go on and on. I'm incredibly blessed. If you are thinking of ways to help those in our community who may not be as blessed as you or may have just hit tough times the Covington Food Bank is need of donations for the holidays.  They are located at 840 N. Columbia Street in Downtown Covington & their number is 985-893-3003.

Their most needed food items are canned meats (beef, chicken or tuna), peanut butter (plastic jars only), dried/canned beans (kidney, navy, black, pinto), hearty soups (pop-top cans), breakfast cereal, grains (dried rice or pasta) & canned goods (corn, carrots, greens). They ask that food be dropped off at their warehouse during operating hours which are Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday 8:45 am to noon.

The Covington Food Bank provides food assistance to more than 375 individuals and families each week that live at or below the 130% federal poverty guidelines and are in need of assistance.  After qualifying for assistance, an individual can receive a minimum of 35 lbs of food each month and a family can receive a minimum of 70 lbs each month. For more information on how to apply for assistance, volunteer, or hosting a food drive go to www.covingtonfoodbank.org.
