Start the Mardi Gras season with the 10th Joan of Arc Parade, taking place on Twelfth Night, January 6, 2018 (which is also Joan of Arc’s birthday). This is a short walking parade of just 14 blocks long and features people dressed in medieval costumes. Joan of Arc is referred to as the Maid of Orleans because she freed Orleans, France from British domination in 1429. She was charged with being a heretic a few years later and was burned at the stake. In the 16th Century, however, she was named a martyr and was later canonized as a saint in the Catholic Church. This parade honors both Joan of Arc and New Orleans's French heritage.

January 6 is also the first day that legend says you can eat king cake so feel free to bring some to share and meet at the Jax Brewery where parking is available. The parade begins promptly at 7 PM and makes 3 stops along the way:

  1. Toasts from the Historic New Orleans Collection and from the Consul General of France from the balcony at 400 Chartres Street

  2. A sword blessing at St. Louis Cathedral

  3. The crowning of the king and the king cake ceremony at the end of the parade at Washington Artillery Park

Come join in for a great way to begin the Mardi Gras season! Please see the following link for additional information or to learn more about the organization:
