LSU’s Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge is a fascinating celebration of rural life from the 18th and 19th centuries shown through exhibits of Louisiana artifacts. The museum is located on 430+ acres of land with more than 30 buildings and is divided into three sections:

  1. The Exhibit Barn which has artifacts of everyday farm life in Louisiana.

  2. The Plantation Quarters -  a complex of buildings duplicated and authentically furnished to resemble a 19th century plantation to include a commissary, kitchen, slave cabins, blacksmith’s shop, overseer’s house, and a sugar shop.

  3. Louisiana Folk Architecture -  another complex of buildings designed to replicate the various types of Louisiana houses from the 19th century.  Examples include a country church, a pioneer cabin, an Acadian cabin, and a shotgun house.
