See How Floats Are Made At Blaine Kern Mardi Gras World
If you love Mardi Gras, then you will love exploring how all the floats are constructed at Blaine Kern’s Mardi Gras World, 1380 Port of New Orleans Place at the south end of the Convention Center. You can tour the facility and see close up what goes into making those fantastic floats, learn about the history of Mardi Gras and even taste some king cake. Here is how Blaine Kern Studio was founded: A surgeon and also a captain of one of the krewes saw a mural on a hospital wall that Blaine had painted in lieu of payment for his mother’s care at this hospital. The surgeon hired him, and Blaine Kern Studios was officially founded in 1947. Read more of the history at the following link: http://www.mardigrasworld.com/about-us/our-history/. Today, Mardi Gras World is busy all year preparing for Fat Tuesday. The tours are popular with both visitors and locals alike who enjoy seeing the behind the scenes work of float making. Mardi Gras World is open all year, 7 days a week, except major holidays, from 9 AM till 5:30 PM. Tours start every half hour and last approximately an hour.
