Why Mardi Gras Is A Different Date Every Year

Ever wondered why Mardi Gras never occurs on the same day every year? Mardi Gras’ date depends on the date of Easter. This is how it works: The Mardi Gras season always follows the Christmas season and begins on January 6, also known as Twelfth Night or the Feast of Epiphany.  Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) falls on a Tuesday between February 3 and March 9 and is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday. There are 46 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, and the date of Easter Sunday is between March 23 and April 25. Easter falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox (March 21). To see the list of upcoming Mardi Gras dates or for additional information, see the link that follows: http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/mgdates.html.
